A book by Nanz-Chong Komo with Wee Beng Choo
SYNOPSIS
ONE.99shop is a name that every Singaporean knows. It was the ultimate shopping haven, selling clever and beautiful products at one (very low) price.
A smash success in Singapore, ONE.99shop quickly mushroomed with branches all across the island. Its founder Nanz Chong-Komo, was celebrated for her business acumen and raised up as a role model and mentor for other small-business owners.
However, things started to go wrong for Chong-Komo when the SARS epidemic hit Singapore. Sales halved as Singaporeans quarantined themselves to avoid the deadly disease. For a cash-reliant business like ONE.99shop this spelt disaster. Chong-Komo was forced to close down the business in April 2003. The company went into liquidation and she was declared bankrupt.
But that’s not where the story ends.
Chong-Komo has always been widely known and admired for her never-say-die attitude. Her effervescent personality and more importantly, her experience dealing with great success and also failure has turned her into one of the most sought-after speakers and trainers on the island, as well as a mentor and counsellor to business owners who have much to learn from her experiences.
Today, she is the mother of three children, and the founder of Nanzinc.Com, a website for business people of every level.
In 2006, she published ONE BUSINESS 99 LESSONS, a book in which she uses her ONE.99shop experience bless others with greater knowledge and wisdom.
This manual of 99 priceless business nuggets that span practical tips — from how to handle failure to how to handle staff, and personal insights and advice such as cultivating a positive attitude — educates challenges and entertains everyone from the business owner to the casual reader.
ONE BUSINESS 99 LESSONS reveals how to live life to the fullest even in the face of failure. Which, in the mind of Nanz Chong-Komo, is not a conclusion but a step in the journey of success. ONE BUSINESS 99 LESSONS is an honest, humorous and insightful collection of precious business and personal lessons which this dynamic entrepreneur has gleaned from having run a multi-million-dollar empire.
